Obituary
The death of Mrs. Emilie Kaleschke Saturday last was a sad loss to the community as well as a severe blow to the children of the deceased. Mrs. Kaleschke had been a resident for several years and having two fatherless sons was compelled to work hard to support and educate them. Being a very industrious woman and of very amiable disposition, she made many friends and soon was in positions to fulfill her hopes of caring for her children. A short time ago she had a building erected and at the time of her death which was caused by heart trouble she was living there. She had a host of friends who vied with each other in rendering assistance to her during her last moments, and deeply mourn her death. Two sons, Carl and Emil are left in sorrow, but the are comforted by loving friends and sincere sympathizers.

Obituary
Early Thursday morning last, Jacob Kelting, a well known pioneer resident of this community, passed peacefully away at his residence in this city. His health had been gradually failing for the last five years, and for twelve months past he had been almost wholly unable to follow his usual vocation. His demise, therefore, was not altogether unexpected. A widow and three grown children - a son and two daughters - survive him.
Mr. Kelting had a wide circle of friends and acquaintences throughout the State, and was highly respected by all who knew him for his generous nature and kindly acts. Born in Holstein, Germany, in 1833, at the age of 15 he began the voyage of life on the briny deep. His first experience on the seas was a sailor boy on a transport ship during the Crimean War, where he faced danger and found adventure mid roaring of canon and scenes of devastation. in 1856 he arrived in San Francisco from New York. On landing here he navigated the waters of the bay and coast until 1861, when he came to Redwood City and worked for a time for Mr. Hall. He afterwards returned to San Francisco and opened a coffee stand on Sacramento street, where he thrived, but soon longed for the sea again. Disposing of this business he purchased the schooner Young America which he ran for several years between different Bay points, including Redwood City. In 1874, while master of the Young America, he married a lady of Ross Landing, Marin county, and in 1878 brought his family to Redwood City, where they have since resided. He continued sailing the bay until about five years ago, when failing health compelled him to drop anchor and come ashore for good.
As a citizen and neighbor Mr. Kelting was esteemed by all, and as a husband and father, he was indulgent, kind and dutiful.
The funeral took place from hit late residence last Friday afternoon, under the auspices of the A. O. U. W., of which he was a member. The remains were followed to thier final resting place in Union Cemetery by a large number of friends, who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family in their hour of sore distress.
