With hardly a ray of hope for his recovery, for sixty hours, George H. Leary fought bravely for his life and on Monday night gave up the unequal battle and closed his eyes in peaceful sleep. His death coming with such suddenness while in apparent good health, has almost the elements of tragedy and the community in which he had spent his whole life is both shocked and saddened in consequence.
Mr. Leary was taken suddenly and violently ill and it was decided that only a hasty operation would save his life. His condition was found to be such a serious nature that but little hope was given him. For nearly three days he hovered between the shadow, with all that science could offer to prolong his life, until nine o'clock Monday night, when his suffering came to an end.
The deceased was a native of Redwood City was born fifty years ago. He was the son of D.G. Leary, a pioneer painter of this city and followed the occupation of his father. He was a successful businessman and enjoyed a large patronage, being known as one of the most reliable painters on the peninsula. As a citizen he held the confidence of a large circle of friends who admired his sterling character and his many qualities of manhood. The deceased is survived by his wife formerly Miss Ella Gilbert, the daughter of one of the county's oldest families, and one daughter, Lois and a sister with her family, Mrs Emma Mayo, who resides in Pleasanton with her family.
The funeral services will be held at Odd Fellows Hall today at 2 P.M. under the auspices of the local Masons and Eastern Star Lodges. After the services, the deceased will be laid away in Union Cemetery in the plot where his mother and father are resting.
