Obituary
OWEN McGARVEY
Redwood City Democrat
April 22, 1897
All that was mortal of the late Owen McGarvey was laid to rest in Union Cemetery last Sunday, his long siege of illness having terminated in death Thursday night. The funeral took place from the hall of San Mateo Lodge No. 16S F & M of which the deceased was an honored member, and under whose auspices it was conducted. In addition to the ceremony of the order, Rev. F.H. Maar spoke a few words of religious consolation. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful and a very large attendance attested the high esteem in which the departed was held in the community, where he had lived more than forty years. He was a native of New York aged 67. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Leonard, two daughters, Miss Lottie McGarvey and Mrs. J. W. Bell, and two sons W J. and Henry.

Obituary
WILLIAM J McGARVEY
Redwood City Democrat
August 1, 1918
William J. McGarvey, well known resident of this city for many years and brother of Henry McGarvey, retired rancher and contractor, passed away at the Huling's hospital on Phelps Street late Sunday night. His death was due to a distressing accident which occurred Thursday at the home of Mrs. Dollie Granger. While walking about the yard of the place in the afternoon, he slipped and fell sustaining a fracture of the leg just beneath the knee and at a point where he had received a gunshot wound some forty-five years ago.
The injured man, already weakened by long years of illness, was removed to his apartments and Dr. F.S. Gregory called. After dressing the wound, it was decided it was necessary in the hope of saving the patient's life to amputate the limb. The operation was performed at the Huling's hospital Saturday morning by Dr. Gregory, but Mr. McGarvey failed to rally and he passed away about 11 o'clock that same night.
The deceased was well-known in the political circles of San Mateo County. He served a deputy clerk and recorder under J.F.Johnston and others for several terms and also was deputy tax collector for four years under the late Henry Pitcher. At one time he was considered one of the most skilled penmen in the county. In his youth, he was considered ablely of art athlete and even after the injury to his leg, distinguished himself on the baseball diamonds as a pitcher playing with pioneer teams of Redwood.
Mr McGarvey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora E. McGarvey. a brother H.W. McGarvey, two sisters, Mrs. James Bell, of La honda, and Mrs. Emma Painter of Millbrae and an aunt Mrs. Mary Leonard.
The funeral was held yesterday from the residence of Henry McGarvey on El Camino Real, services being conducted by the Rev. Geo. Brice. A large number of relatives and friends attended the services and followed the remains to Union Cemetery where interment took place

Obituary
MRS. A. O. MCGREW
Redwood City Denmocrat
October 12, 1893
In our last week’s issue in the Menlo Letter was the account of the accidental death of Mrs A.O. McGrew. From the husband of the deceased lady we learn the following in regard to this sad mishap.
Mrs. A.O. McGrew and Mrs. M. E. Dewing of 1005 California St., San Francisco, occupied the back seat. The accident took place about 4 p.m. Mrs. McGrew was holding her little granddaughter aged 2 1/2 years on her lap, when the back seat broke short off and they fell in the road. Mrs. McGrew struck on the back of her head and ruptured a blood vessel, she was immediately unconscious and remained so until her death which occurred at 7:15 that evening. Mrs. Dewing was badly cut about the head, her collar bone was broken, she was bruised on her left side from her shoulder to her feet. Her physician says she will, with care, be able to leave her bed in about six weeks. On the front seat was Mrs. W.R. Bissell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McGrew and her little son 2 1/2 years-the twin of the little girl-and Dora Dewing in her 11th year. The combined weight of all in the surrey would not exceed 550 pounds. It is said that only two weeks before the same vehicle had collapsed and had badly injured some ladies who were riding in it. The rig was hired from Solen’s Livery Stable in Menlo Park. Mr. McGrew and his daughter will continue to reside in their Menlo Park cottage.
