Civil War Veteran Dead, Bartender is Arrested

San Gregorio, August 5 - James Mulloland, a bartender at Frank Bell's Saloon was arrested this morning by sheriff Gregory. Mulloland must explain his action prior to the death of Thomas Penny, a Civil War veteran, who died last Saturday at the San Mateo County Poor farm.
It is charged that Penny had been spending his money, which he received from a Government pension, in Bell's saloon, and when his funds were exhausted he demanded a free drink. He was told to leave the place, and when he refused to do so, it was said that Mulloland threw him out the door into a watering trough.
He was badly bruised and contracted a severe cold. He was removed to the San Mateo Poor Farm, where he died last Saturday.
Mulloland will have his hearing before Justice of the Peace J. A. McCormick at San Mateo Monday morning.

        FRANK PEREGRINA TAKEN BY DEATH
        Following a week's illness, Frank L. Peregrina, 54, passed away early this morning at the Mills Memorial Hospital in San Mateo. Although a native of Spain, he had lived in this community for the past 25 years. He resided at 2202 El Camino Real. He was the husband of the late Rose M. Peregrina, who died here four months ago.
        Surviving him are six sons and two daughters: Frank Jr., Madero, Tony, John, Joseph and Edward Peregrina; Mrs. Dora P. Lara and Mrs. Rose Diaz.
        The funeral services will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Layng & Tinney Funeral Home, thence to Mt. Carmel Church, where a requiem mass will be celebrated commencing at 9:30 o'clock.
