A very lamentable death occurred in this city Sunday morning in the passing of Walter Conrad Pierson, the 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pierson of Standish Street. The young man had been ill only a week, suffering from a liver complaint and his condition was not regarded as at all serious until up to a few days ago before his death. Complications set in Friday and despite everything that could be done for him in a way of medical attention, he passed away about 10 o’clock Sunday morning.
Walter Pierson was one of Redwood’s best known and most popular young men and his untimely passing has caused widespread sorrow throughout the city. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family. A particularly sad incident connected with his death was that he was to have been married next month, his fiancee being Miss Susie O’Neil of San Francisco.
Young Pierson was born in Germany but came to this country with his parents when he was quite a young boy. He had lived here about twelve years and for several years was a trusted employee of the Progress Lumber Company of this city. He was a member of Court Madrone No. 158, Foresters of America and also the Redwood City Fire Dept. In addition to his bereaved parents, two sisters and one brother survive. They are Mrs August Grimmerstein, Mrs. B. Doose, and Oscar Pierson, Jr.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of his sister Mrs. August Grimmerstein on Jackson St. The large number of persons attended and many beautiful floral offerings attested to the high esteem in which the young man was held in the community. The services at home were conducted by Rev. Edward H Molony of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and were followed by interment in Union Cemetery.
