Cause of Death: Hemorrhage from wrist by suicide with razor

Obituary
Carbolic acid, a razor and shotgun were the intended weapons of self-destruction whose use was planned by Robert Severson, a Danish gardener employed at the residence of Judge Henshaw at Fair Oaks some time Sunday; but the first two did their work, the man falling dead beside the gun which had been loaded for final use.
Noticing that the stock on the Henshaw place had not been cared for Monday morning, Maurice Cronin, a coachman employed on the neighboring estate of Colonel Fred Eaton, investigated, believing that Severson might be ill.
Cronin placed a ladder against the house and climbing it, looked into Severson's room to find him lying in a pool of blood and the room a shambles.
Deputy Coroner Cronk was notified, and it was found that Severson had first evidently taken a large dose of acid. Then he had cut his left wrist deeply with a razor, and wandered about the house, finally returning to his own room and locking himself in, finally losing consciousness as he approached his loaded shotgun.
Severson, who was 40 years of age and a Dane, left the following note:
"I, R. S. am suffering by cause of jealousy. R. S."
An inquest was held Tuesday forenoon by Coroner Plymire, the jury returning a verdict of suicide due to insanity.
