Samuel M. Cook, well-known citizen of Redwood, dies at his residence on Monday morning last, at 2 o'clock. Mr. Cook had been seriously ill for some time previous to his demise, and the said termination of his life was not unexpected. The Episcopal services were conducted at the house of Rev. Wm. Stowe, after which the San Mateo Lodge of Masons took charge and the rites of the Order were administered at the cemetery, which were made very impressive by the excellent reading of the burial service by Albert Hanson, the presiding officer of the lodge. Mr. Cook was a member of the Chosen Friends which insures his widow the handsome sum of $2,000. His age at the time of his death was 61 years. Masonic Plot

            Laid to rest.

Sammy, the five year old child to T. M. Cook, formerly the editor of the Times and Gazette, died of diphtheria on Saturday last. The burial services were conducted by Rev. A. L. Brewer of San Mateo. Although the boy had been ailing for some days, his sudden death was unexpected. In this bereavement there is cold sympathy in words. Better perhaps that the child should be taken while it is yet innocent and pure.

                    August 25, 1898
Grim death has again visited our community. Friday evening, Mrs. Minnie Louise Cooley, beloved wife of William Cooley, died suddenly at her home of heart disease.
The deceased had a large circle of friends, besides a husband and three children - two boys and a girl who will miss her sorely. The funeral took place Tuesday from Presbyterian Church. Dr. Scott of San Francisco delivered an eloquent tribute to her.
Her father and mother led the funeral cortege into the church. The mourner's pew and the bier were smothered in the rarest flowers. The sympathy of the village goes to the stricken family and particularly to the mother of Mrs. Cooley, who feels the loss keenly.
The interment was in Redwood City, Plot 176
