    James Cronk passes away at the Soldier's Home.
    James Scott Cronk, formerly constable of the third township and a resident of Redwood City for many years, died Sunday at the Soldier's home near Los Angeles where he had been living for the past six months. The news was received by telegram to the relatives in this city Monday. He was 37 years old.
    Jim Croak, as he was known to his many friends, grew up, and lived in Redwood City until a few months ago when he was afflicted with eye trouble which rendered him almost totally blind. Through the efforts of friends, he was sent to the Soldier's Home, where it was hoped his sight might be recovered. Croak served with distinction in the Navy during the Spanish American War.
    He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Minnie Cronk and three children - Bryant, Irene, and Gladys all of whom reside in this city. His mother, Mrs. Byers, lives in San Jose, and a married sister, Mrs. Charles Nichols, is in San Francisco. His father, the late Samuel Cronk, was the owner of a livery stable here for many years.
    The body arrived here Tuesday and was taken charge of by the local lodge of Woodman. Yesterday afternoon the funeral took place at the Redwood City Undertaking parlors under the auspices of the Woodmen and the deceased was interred in Union Cemetery.

      Samuel H. Cronk is dead.
      After months of suffering in the unequal battle with death, Samuel H. Cronk passed peacefully away to his long rest early last Thursday evening. Mr. Cronk, though desperately ill for the greater part of a year, remained in personal charge of his business almost up to the day of his death. To his strong will and determination are due to the fact that he clung to life long past the period when nature's sustaining influences had become exhausted.
      Although the struggle is at an end and the inevitable victory of the destroyer has been recorded, it still seems impossible to associate Sam Cronk with death. His cheery disposition, his rare humor and incomparable wit, so well known even the hours of his suffering were suggestive only of life in its sunniest phases. The funeral took place from the family home on Stambaugh Street. Short services were conducted by Rev. F. H. Mair and a choir composed of Mr. And Mrs. Marr, Miss Eva Cook, and Rev. Mr Marshall rendered appropriate music, appropriate to the solemn occasion.
