    Obituary

    SAD ACCIDENT IN WOODSIDE
A sad accident occured Wednesday at about noon at the residence of J. E. Alsford, Woodside. His young four-year-old son, with a little brother, while playing under two small trees near the house, was strangled by a cord attached to one of the trees. The father on his way to the well noticed the boy standing on a box near the tree, having in his hand a cord. He admonished the boy to be careful and not fall off the box. Shortly afterward, Mr. Alsford saw he was hanging by the twine and at once ran to his assistance and cut the cord. It was soon learned to the parents grief, that the one they loved so well was dead. Coroner Crowe was at once summoned and an Inquest on the body was held Thursday morning. The theory is that the little boy climbed on the box and playfully twisted the cord around his neck, and accidentally falling was strangled. The heartbroken parents have resided in Woodside for a number of years. The funeral took place from the Episcopal Church Thursday at 2 o'clock. Interment at Union Cemetery.

There is no longer any question concerning the identity of the remains found floating at the mouth of West Point Creek last week. They were those of John Anderson, a native of Sweden, who had been in the employ of the Frank Tanning Company for nearly three years. Of late he had drank considerably and, no doubt, he wandered away while intoxicated and was drowned. His daughter, who is a domestic at San Leandro, positively identified the remains and the coroner's jury bought a verdict accordingly. The remains were interred in Union Cemetery, at the expense of his fellow workmen at the tannery.
