Obituary
WALTER EBERLE
R.C. Democrat
Thursday, July 19, 1900
Walter, the five year old son of Peter Eberle who lives near Five Points, met with his death last Saturday under the most appalling circumstances. The little fellow climbed onto the trail wagon of Sampson Bros. Shingle team and in some way, either in getting on or off, fell, both wheels of the heavily laden wagon passing over his head, crushing him beyond recognition. He was killed instantly. The accident occurred close to the little fellow's home on Mound Street and was witnessed only by an elder brother who was too horrified to remember just how it happened. Frank West, the driver, did not see the boy, as he was hidden from view by the load on the first wagon.
The burial took place in Union Cemetery Monday afternoon. Rev. J.J. Martin conducted the services and spoke touchingly on the sad event. An inquest will be held Saturday by Coroner Crowe.

Obituary
MRS JAMES EDDY
San Mateo Times Gazette
July 9, 1892
Mrs. James Eddy, whose death occurred Wednesday, was the first white woman to come to Springfield, Tuolumne County, arriving there from Hazel Green, Wisconsin, in the spring of '52. Her maiden name was Amelia East. To her late husband. James Eddy, she was married in 1845 and immediately after came to America. Ten years ago they were so well pleased with Redwood City that they concluded to reside here while they lived. Just 11 months ago Mr. Eddy died. From that time his consort has mourned unceasingly and looked forward with joy to the time of her dismissal and has continued to fail in health, holding herself as in his presence and having communication with her lost. She was often found employed in making preparations for his comfort and for his arrival. She has always spoken of herself as going to father (this to her children) and referred to the Supreme satisfaction afforded her in having the children and grandchildren with her. She approached with every manifestation of joy and end of her pilgrimage and simply ceased to live at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening. Her daughter Mrs. Fred Conrad with the children Rosabel and James have been caring for her the last three months, and James Eddy, her son, has likewise helped to brighten her last days. Mr. Conrad was summoned by telegraph but arrived too late to see Mrs. Eddy alive. The funeral occurred on Friday at 9 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Nicholas of the Episcopal Church officiating.

Obituary
JAMES JEFFREY EDDY
Times and Gazette
August 15, 1891
The subject of this sketch deserves more than a passing notice, yet this column of a weekly paper can not amplify as worth might often claim. He came of that old British stock, the absence of which Albion's history would have impoverished her annuals, was born in Illogan, Cornwall in 1822. Of course he was a miner, the title by which he was distinguished, Captain indicating preeminence in that calling. It was not far across to Spain and England's prowess in the peninsular was opened her mines to Cornish enterprise and young Eddy at nineteen landed on Spanish soil and went into the renowned Almaden Mine. Four years afterwards, he returned and was married and, with the first English contingent arrived in the Galena County, Wisconsin. In the year 1850, he came to California from Mexico and made a fortune in the Tuolumne gold field. This he lost in stock speculations in San Francisco. In the city he was known as the Father of the Cornish, his home was Headquarters" for the helpless of his countrymen who depended on him for advice and succor. In 1878, Eddy took charge of the Los Gatos hotel.
Fortune smiled upon him and nine years ago he, with his life companion retired with a competency from business care, coming to this town for which he conceived an ardent attachment. Mr. Eddy's sickness was brief duration and his intellect was unclouded to the last. His ruling passion, pay as you go was strong in death and having adjusted the ledger of life he said, The time is come: good bye all. And was not. He was 69 years old. James J. Eddy was a member of California Lodge No 1 F and M of San Francisco having been one of the Mystic Tie since 1854 was buried from the lodge room of the fraternity here at 2 o'clock last Wednesday in a vault previously prepared by himself for sepulture in Union Cemetery, a large concourse of citizens participating. The surviving family are the wife, Mrs. Amelia Eddy, a son James Eddy, a daughter, Mrs. Fred Conrad, of Tuolumne, a brother Joseph Eddy of Virginia City.
