          Obituary

Death of Wm Ellis. The Times and Gazette, published at Redwood City, San Mateo Co., California, bearing the date of Nov. 15th.
William Ellis died on the morning of November 1st at the residence of his brother-in-law, L. Bartholomew. He came to this place early last Spring thinking that this might prove beneficial to his health, but that fatal disease, consumption, was too deeply seated for anything to arrest it's course. And for months past he had been gradually failing, but seemed fully reconciled to the inevitable and knew that he must soon cross the dark river. He was born at Vermont, Fulton county, Illinois, March 7, 1844. For several years past he has been a prominent educator of Crawford county, Kansas, when his failing health obliged him to quit the profession of teaching. The funeral services took place at the residence on November 3rd. Rev. Mr. Fisher efficiated, and many friends assembled and followed the remains to their last resting place in the deep sympathy with his sister at her loss but his gain.

Although she had been ill for some time, her death was unexpected. As it was thought her illness was not serious. She was married to John Elvin, who survives her, forty one years ago in San Francisco by Rev John Hemphill. The bride at that time being an instructor in French to the younger members of the Atherton family. Soon after this time the young couple moved to this county and they made their home and raised a large family here. The deceased was a kind woman, a good neighbor and a loving mother whose greatest joy in life was to be with her children and bring them up in the way in which they should go. Besides her husband, who for some years has been suffering from rheumatism and is quite feeble, the following sons and daughters: Mrs. John Ralston, Mrs. Edward Bangle, Mrs. Wm Abbott, Mrs. W Worth, Frank, John, Arthur, Ferdinand, Theodore, and Reuben. The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased by Rev. Mr. Ruge of the Episcopal Church on Saturday and the internment took place at Union Cemetery. Mr. John Elvin and family extend their heartfelt thanks to their many friends and acquaintances and particularly to Hose Co. No 3, Court Madrone No 158 Foresters of America and to the Carpenters Union of Half Moon Bay for the kindness and sympathy as well as floral offerings extended to them in their recent bereavement in the loss of a devoted mother and life.

                    Obituary

Patrick Enright, a painter who has been in the employ of D. G. Leary for the past two months, died suddenly at the Tremont House Sunday. Enright was sitting at the supper table when he was seized with a fit and was about to fall when a number of persons caught him and carried him out to the gentleman’s sitting room. Dr. Ross was quickly called, but he could render the dying man no assistance. The deceased was 45 years of age and a native of New York, but has resided in San Francisco for 20 years. He was frequently employed by Mr. Leary.
He was once married but his wife and children are all dead. Although Mr. Enright did not belong to the Grand Army of the Republic, it was well known that he was an ex Union Soldier. It is said that his only living relative is an aunt residing in Chicago.
Patrick Enright’s remains were taken in charge by the coroner and he was
buried under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic in the GAR plot in Union Cemetery.
