Marcia Hinman, aged 72 years, died at San Jose Sunday and was buried in Union cemetery Tuesday. The deceased was the mother of the wives of Steven and Alfred Davis of San Jose and formerly resided in this city.

    P. W. HINTON COMMITTED SUICIDE ON SUNDAY NIGHT LAST
    P. W. Hinton, a colored man well known in this section, where he has lived for some years, was found dead in his bed on Monday morning, at his home, on the southern outskirts of this town, by his brother-in-law, Edmund J. Fay, who gave the alarm and Coroner James Crowe was summoned.
    From facts brought out at the inquest, which was held Monday afternoon, it seems that Hinton went to Walsh's drug store, which was closed, on Sunday evening. Seeing the proprietor, A. D. Walsh, on the walk in front of the store, he endeavored to induce him to get him some laudanum, but was unsucessful. Mr. Walsh having some suspicion as to his intention. Hinton then went to Anderson's saloon, corner of A and Bridge Streets, where he remained some time. He told parties that he had taken doses of Rough on Rats. Evidently the poison was not of its usual strength, as it did not seem to produce the ordinary results. In fact, most of those present in the saloon thought he was joking as to the nature of the doses he took. Dr. Barret was summoned and adminstered emetics and washed out the stomach with a stomach tube, after which Hinton seemed to be better and was taken home, but died during the night.
    Some years ago, Hinton won $15,000 inthe Louisianna Lottery. He married a white woman and coming to Redwood, he purchased several lots in the Robinson tract and built a fine home, which he furnished handsomely. He was fond of horse racing, however, and lavish with his money, and it was not long before most of his fortune had vanished and a mortgage of $1500 was placed on his property. Then the costly furniture went, piece by piece, to raise money, until the house was almost bare. On Saturday his wife left him and he become very despondent. He remarked to more than one acquaintance that he was tired of life and thought he would end it all.
    Deceased was a native of Kentucky, aged 36 years. The jury found that death was caused by poison administered by his own hands.
    The interment took place in the Robinson plot in Union Cemetery yesterday. Mrs. Carrie Robinson kindly donating the grave.
