Obituary
Tribute to a Dead Brother.
The following resolutions were adopted Monday evening by the members of the Metamora Tribe of Red Men in memory of P. McCanna, whose death occurred on the 16th:
To the Hachern and Chiefs of Metamora Tribe No. 24, Improved Order of Red Men.
Your committee appointed to prepare and submit a memorial upon the demise of Bro. McCanna of this tribe, respectably reported as follows:
The swift fleeting arrow of the dark hunter has come and found a shining mark and one of our beloved chiefs has been called to the happy hunting grounds.
Bro. Patrick McCanna met the shaft of death at the setting of the 16th sun of the present moon after a short illness. With large, robust frame, a stout heart, and genial, sunny disposition, he was endeared to brothers and friends by his many acts of kindness and words of encouragement, his sudden demise being a surprise and heavy blow to us all. Right well did he in every day day life carry out the motto:
"Do your best for one another,
Making life a pleasant dream;
Help a lone and weary brother,
Pulling hard against the stream."
Brother McCanna was born in county Monohan, Ireland, G. B. D. 355, and while yet a young brave trailed to the Dominion of Canada, thones in a short time to San Francisco, where he married and in G. B. D. 386 came to these hunting grounds in which he thereafter continuously followed the hunt.
He was adopted into this tribe on the sloop of the 10th sun of hot moon G. B. D 392 and at once became an earnest member and advocate of our order, serving for many great suns as the guard of the wigwam.
While deploring the loss of our esteemed brother Red Men our hearts go out to the good wife who has been left to mourn the departed. May the Kisho Manitou grant her strength and courage in the hour of trial, and may she feel that she has the full sympathy of the Improved Order of Red Men to sustain her.
We would recommend as a mark of respect the council chamber be darkened for the space of one moon and that a copy of this report be forwarded under seal of the tribe to the widow of our deceased brother. Fraternally submitted in F. F. and C.
