    Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth Treasure Winter, a resident of Redwood City for over 40 years and one of the oldest persons in San Mateo county, passed away at her home, 702 Stambaugh street, last Monday morning. Mrs. Winter, who would have reached her 92 birthday on July 17th next, was in comparatively good health up to a few days before her death. Saturday morning she enjoyed a walk about the gardens of her home, but later complained of not feeling well and took to her bed. She gradually grew weaker and the end came peacefully early Monday.
Mrs. Winter was born in Stone Eaton, England, July 17 1830. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Treasure and on July 17, 1856, she was married to Nimrod Winter. Of this union six children were born - James H., now a business man in San Francisco; Louise, who died in early childhood; Joseph N. and George W., both of whom passed away in this city during the past six years; Emily M., now Mrs. Vasquez and who made her home with her mother; and Elizabeth, now Mrs. O. M. Hester of Los Altos.
In September, 1872, Mrs. Winter with her five children, left her home in England and sailed across the ocean to join her husband who had preceded her the year before and had settled in Chicago, Ill. After remaining two years in Chicago, the family came West to San Francisco and later moved to Virginia City, Nevada, where Mr. Winter became interested in mining. After two years in the Mother Lode country, the family returned to San Francisco and shortly afterwards, in June of 1882, settled in Redwood City. Mr. Winter passed away in 1887, and Mrs. Winter continued to make her home here. The children all married and became prominent in the civic and social life of the community. The late Joseph N. Winter was chief of the Redwood City fire department for many years and George W. Winter, who passed away a few years ago, served on the board of town trustees for several terms. James H. Winter is a prominent business man of San Francisco.
In addition to her three children, Mrs. Winter is survived by eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Mrs. Albert Mansfield, George H. Winter, Mrs. Harland Mansfield, Mrs. Walter Hilton, Allan Winter, H. Lisie Winter, Miss Madeline Winter and Leo J. Winter. The great grandchildren are Joel Mansfield, Elizabeth Mansfield, Dorothy Mansfield, Albert Mansfield Jr., Alice Mansfield, Harry Winter, Virgil Winter, Jeanne Winter and Harland George Mansfield Jr.
The noble woman was laid to rest in the family plot in Union Cemetery.
