Jacob Jacobus, one of the early pioneers of this county, passed away at the residence of his son, Charles Jacobus, in this city Thursday, at the advanced age of 78 years. Deceased was a native of New Jersey and came to California in 1850. Mr. Jacobus was well known and highly respected by all who knew him. He leaves four sons - Charles, Linas, Silva and George. His burial took place Saturday in Union Cemetery.

            Three Die When Airplane Falls
            Redwood City, Calif., Aug. 23.
            Three men were instantly killed at the Varney aviation file here late today when their airplane crashed to the ground from a height of 300 feet. The dead are Clift Prodge, 32, of Bristol, Eng., pilot; John C. Nelson and Gus Jamison, attaches of the Varney aviation school here. Prodger was a representative of a British craft company and was demonstrating the airplane.

            Death of Esteemed Pioneer Resident
            In the death of Percival B Jamieson which occurred Monday, another name is stricken from the ever lessening role of old settlers of this county, and another face has gone from the ranks of those with whom we have been acquainted, since boyhood. He was a man of pleasant disposition and met most of the conditions and situations of life with a jest or merry word. He was also a practical hard working man and continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits till past the age when men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers. This is practically accounted for by the peculiar talent which he had of extracting merriment and enjoyment from life as it went along and he was not disposed to worry about matters that could be bettered in other ways.
            Mr. Jamieson was born in New Zealand and came in 1852 with his parents to this state, settling in Woodside where they remained for many years. In the sixties, the deceased entered into business in this city where he married Rose Thatcher who preceded him to the grave about two years ago. Their family consisting of Harry, Wm., and Mrs. B. Stafford grew up around here and survived them. Two brothers John and Ebenezer and a sister Mrs. A. McDonald also survive him living in different parts of the state. The funeral yesterday was under the auspices of the Metamora Tribe of Redmen of which the deceased was a charter member. A number of pioneers and friends accompanied the cortege to Union Cemetery where the interment took place.

              On Tuesday evening Mrs. Rose Jamieson passed away at her home in this city, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Jamieson was born in Ballarat Victoria, Australia and was 51 years and 3 months. In 1858, she came with her mother to this city and in her early womanhood married Percy B. Jamieson. The funeral will take place from the residence this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment at Union Cemetery.

                  Carl Augustus Janke was a local merchant in the city of Belmont, California he founded Belmont Park in 1865 which was modeled after a German beer garden. Janke subsequently he founded a local soft drink bottling plant, the first industry for the town of Belmont.
