Obituary
Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 53, Number 71, 15 May 1885
Redwood City, May — This morning Andrew Larsen, the gardener at N. J. Brittan's place, about one and a half miles from town, was found in the gardener's house, lying back across the bed, with the top of his head blown off. A single-barreled shotgun with an empty cartridge was lying across his feet, which were resting on the floor. It was at first thought to be an accident, but an unsigned note was found in his trunk, written in English, directing all his effects to be sent to a cousin in lowa. A half sheet of note paper was also found, written in Danish, which has not yet been translated. The body was brought to town and an inquest is in progress.

ANDREW LARSON
Times and Gazette, May 16, 1885
Suicide of Andrew Larson
On Thursday morning, Mr. Brown, foreman of N. J. Brittan’s farm, opened the door of the gardener’s house and found the gardener, Andrew Larson lying back down across his bed with the top of his head entirely blown off. A single barreled shot gun was lying on his feet. Mr Brown came to town and notified Deputy Coroner Finger, who went out and had the remains brought back to town. An inquest was held during the afternoon and the jury after hearing the testimony of a number of witnesses rendered a verdict that the deceased came to his death feom a gunshot wound inflicted by himself with suicidal intent. The first impression of those who saw the body was that the death was accidental, but a piece of paper was found in the trunk of the deceased directing that all his effects be sent to August Larson in a letter dated the 2nd of this month to Cedar Rapids, Lynn County, Iowa, accompanying a mortgage and two notes, in blank for him to sign, for $600 in equal payments on land in Illinois and payable to Gustave Swenson, Elmhurst, Ill of $300 was found, on the back of which was written some thing having gotten him (Swenson) into trouble and now he was in trouble himself.
