A. L. SEARS
On Sunday last, A.L. Sears who had been a patient sufferer from consumption for some months past, breathed his last. He was a native of California, aged 31 years and 13 days. In addition to his mother, who is the widow of the late Jack Stafford, he leaves a young wife and a brother, with the latter he was associated in the livery business here. Deceased was a member of the local parlor of Native Sons, under whose auspices the funeral took place Tuesday afternoon. He was also a member of the Metamora Tribe ORM and his brothers in that order turned out in large numbers to assist in administering the last sad rites. The funeral was an unusually large one, attesting to the esteem in which deceased was held in the community.

ANNIE SEARS
San Mateo Times and Daily News Leader
December 18, 1943
One of the pioneer figures of San Mateo county, Miss Annie Laurie Sears, 84, died at her home at La Honda last night after a long illness. Miss Sears, who had lived in La Honda for the past 82 years, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sears, founders of the town of Searsville, below Woodside, now at the bottom of Searsville Lake. Miss Sears' parents built the old rambling Sears Hotel.
Miss Sears is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Lydia Grant, wife of Cap Grant, San Mateo county engineer, and Mrs. Ethel Austin, of Honolulu; and two nephews, William E. Sears, and Harry D. Sears, both of San Francisco. Services will be held next Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock at the chapel of Franklin & Crowe. Interment will be in the old family plot at the Union Cemetery here. The Union cemetery is reserved to old pioneer families who purchased plots when the county was first built up. Miss Sears has some fourteen pioneer relatives buried there.

Obituary
MRS. IDA J. SEARS PASSES AWAY AT LA HONDA
Was Member of Family That Founded Searsville, Born on Peninsula
Mrs. Ida J. Sears, a member of the family which founded Searsville and for whom the now-buried town was named, died last night at La Honda. She was 69 years of age.
Mrs. Sears was born in Searsville, the little town whose ruins lie in the dust at the bottom of Searsville Lake, in the days when a main throughfare ran past the settlement and dashing horse drawn vehicles drew up daily before the Searsville Hotel. She married a distant relative by the same name, who died several years ago. With her sister, Miss Annie L. Sears, she had been conducting the La Honda Hotel up to a short time before her death.
