Obituary
PETER M. HANSON
Redwood City Democrat
April 2, 1908
Peter M. Hanson, a well known citizen of this city, died Monday at the age of 82 years. Deceased was a native of Schleswig, Holstein, Denmark and came to California in 1861 from Boston where he had resided for a couple of years. For several years Mr. Hanson was engaged in the Sacramento River shipping trade until the advent of railroads caused a diversion of traffic into other channels. He then moved to this country where he resided for about forty-five years, first in San Mateo and then to this city. For some years, he devoted himself to farming but during late years, he has been living here with his son, Edward. His wife died about ten years ago and Mr. Hanson has been suffering for a long time from an incurable disease and when death came it was a blessed relief. He leaves one son, Edward, and two grandchildren. He was a member of Metamora Tribe No. 24 Improved O.R.M. under whose auspices he was buried. The funeral took place yesterday. Interment in Union Cemetery.

SUICIDE BARES WIFE’S MURDER TEN DAYS AGO
Husband Kills Self In S. F. Hotel: Mate’s Body Found In Redwood City Home
SAN FRANCISCO. Jan 10 – Details of a suicide letter, in which a man known as T. M. Harrison, golf professional who shot and killed himself in a hotel here, described the slaying of his wife ten days ago, were checked today.
The wife, known to neighbors as Mrs. Myrtle Adele Harrison, was found shot to death in her bed at the couple’s Redwood City home last night after the letter, written to the San Francisco Examiner, was turned over to authorities.
In his letter, the supposed Harrison, who had registered at the hotel under the name of Morrison, said his true identity was Justin Leroy Harris and that he killed his wife as she slept.
He said before coming to California about a year ago he was engaged as a golf professional at the Valley View Golf Club of Hanover, N. J., and that he was once dean of a fine arts of an Enid, Okla, university.
The letter told of his life from his boyhood and said his father, a former Illinois minister, was dead. He said his first position was in a bank at Morton, Ill. from which he was discharged for falsifying records.
Later, he continued, he and his sister organized a ------ conservatory at Bloomington with a branch at Paxton. They then moved to Enid, Okla., he added, where he claimed he eventually obtained the university position.
LAUDS FIRST WIFE
It was during this same period, this letter said, Harris married his first wife Lucie, now dead. “My first wife, a lovely cultured lady, is buried in St. Louis” he stated.
He said he and his second wife, who was found dead in their Redwood City home, were married in Belleville, “across the river from St. Louis”.
Harris, in the letter, said his alleged ----- with Valley View Golf Club followed a period in Chicago during which he worked the free lot racket and swindled a friend of $3000.
The decision to kill his wife and commit suicide, the letter said, came after a visit to Del Monte and the insurance of ----- checks to invest the expenses.
PROMINENT IN THE END
ENID, Okla. Jan 10 – Justin Leroy Harris reported to have killed himself in a San Francisco hotel, once was a prominent in musical circles here.
He was dean of the fine arts department of Phillips University in 1913-14. He also directed the choir of the First Baptist Church.
Harris left Enid in 1914.

Obituary
SUICIDE, SLAIN WIFE BURIED
REDWOOD CITY, Jan 13 - Justin Leroy Harris, black sheep son of a minister, and his wife, Mrs. Byrtle Adele Harris, lie side by side in graves donated by a stranger today.
It is the end of the trail for a man who, murdering his wife and killing himself, said that throughout his life his pride made him steal to provide himself with the things other people have.
Harris shot his wife while slept in their home here and reveled the murder in a suicide letter uncovered after shooting himself to death in a San Francisco hotel room 10 days later.
They were buried yesterday in graves donated by Deputy Coroner John Long. There were no mourners. A sexton, an undertaker and Rev. C. Gotchell, who read a brief service, were the only ones present when the bodies were lowered.
An autographed photograph, found at their home, led authorities to believe that Mrs. Harris had a sister Georgia. They are searching for her.
