Obituary
EDWARD COONEY
Redwood City Democrat, April 20, 1899
Edward W Cooney, whose injury at Lobitos on the 9th instant was reported in this paper a week ago, died Sunday morning at the Redwood City House, without gaining consciousness. A careful examination showed that he had suffered a fracture of the skull at the base of the brain and was beyond the aid of surgical skill.
The deceased was a member of Bay View Lodge of Odd Fellows and the Redwood Parlor of Native Sons. His funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The members of both Orders attended in a body. He was buried in Union Cemetery, the Odd Fellows conducting the ceremony. The obsequies were attended by many friends from the neighborhood of the unfortunate young man's former home in Searsville.
The deceased was the son of the late Brien Cooney. He was aged 30 years and leaves a married sister, Mrs. Wellington Orion.
Wellington Orton has petitioned for letters of Administration on the estate of the deceased. It consists of personal property valued at about $1,200.
