                  Obituary

The terrible tragedy at Arroyo Grande on the 31st ult., is still the subject of comment. The unfortunate victim of the assassin has been borne to his late home, and his widow, thought at the date or our last issue to be dead, still hovers between life and death. The shooting appears to have been done by Julius Hemmi under the direction of his father, and that George Geise, a nephew was in the company. Peter Hemmi had previously threatened the life of Walker, and had been placed under bonds to keep the peace. The locality of the murder was four or five miles from the village of Arroyo Grande, up the valley. Coroner Tullman held an inquest on the body of the murdered man, and returned the following verdict: "We find the deceased to be Eugene Walker, aged 30 years, that he came to his death on the 31st of March, by a rifle shot by Julius Hemmi, who is hereby charged with the crime of murder, and that Peter Hemmi and George Geise are accessories before the fact". The jurors were J. B. Townsend, J. N. Jatta, J. J. Whittenberg, J. Maker and Walter Whitely. An inquest was also held on the bodies of the two Hemmis and the verdict rendered that they came to their death by hanging, by parties unknown.
