MRS. LYDIA M. BROWN CALLED
Mrs. Lydia M. Brown, one of the best known and highly most respected women of this city, passed away Tuesday at her home on Main street after an illness of two weeks with influenza. In December, 1891, her husband, Robert Brown, passed away after an illness extending over several years.
Mrs. Brown was born on the site of Stanford University March 10, 1862, and has resided in Redwood City all of her life. She has been one most prominent women in public life of Redwood City for the past 30 years. She was active in all lines of charitable work. For 20 years she was treasurer of the Congregational church and took part in all the church activities. She was past worthy matron of Sequoia Chapter No. 203, O. E. S., and had filled all of the offices in both Rebekahs and Woman's Relief Corps. She was for several years head of the Red Cross chapter and directed the work of the chapter during the early days of the war and was one of the first members of the San Mateo county social service commission.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two brothers, J. W. and Charles Locker.
The funeral of Mrs. Brown was held from her home Thursday afternoon. Rev. C. H. Stevens in simple words told the deeds of this good woman and a choir composed of Mr. and Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Charles Dimmitt and Wm. Doxsee sang several of Mrs. Brown's favorite hymns. The internment was in the family plot at Union Cemetery and the following old friends of the deceased acted as pallbearers: L. P. Behrens, T. C. Rice, Charles G. Lambert, Charles Bettin, Knox Parrish and Kenneth Murray.
