Obituary

Orson J. Bagley
2nd Minnesota Infantry, Company “H”
By: John Edmonds

Orson Bagley was born in Iowa in 1847 but moved to Minnesota prior to the Civil War. Orson enlisted in the 2nd Minnesota Infantry on February 8th 1865. The war ended in April so he only served for 3 months but neither he nor anybody else knew that the war would end so soon, by their perspective. The regiment mustered out in Kentucky.
Orson returned to Minnesota following discharge and remained there, got married about 1870. He was still in Minnesota in 1880 according to the census of that year. He was married to Minnie and they had a son and daughter.
At some point Orson elected to travel to California and to San Mateo County where he joined the Grand Army of the Republic chapter in Redwood City. It was under the auspices of the Grand Army that he was buried on June 1st, 1910, in their plot in Union Cemetery.
