There was more tragedy surrounding the death of Patrick Walsh, 54, Menlo Park carpenter, who died in Community Hospital at Beresford yesterday, than the news story told. It was not alone the tragic end of the man through exposure, but the fact that, had he lived for another day, father and son, who had never seen each other, would of been united very shortly.
Chief of Police C. L. Collins of Redwood City yesterday received a letter from William Walsh of 635 East 170th street, Bronx, New York. He decscribed himself as the son of Patrick Walsh, and asked that Chief Collins locate the father in Menlo Park.
The letter was turned over to Police Chief Frank Love of Menlo Park, and the search for the lost father ended in the Community Hospital, where Walsh died yesterday morning - just a few hours before the boy's letter arrived.
Young Walsh told police that his father had left Ireland just before the baby's birth 24 years ago. After waiting all these years for word from Walsh Sr., the family sent Young Walsh to America to search for the long missing father.
The tragic story of the son's search for the father he had never seen and now will never see was revealed today by Cororner J. C. McGovern. He will conduct an inquest into the man's death on Tuesday.
