Death last night claimed Richard Williams, 99, veteran fighter of the Civil War, and for the past eight years a resident of Redwood City. Mr. Williams passed away in the Community Hospital, Beresford, after an illness of a year. Death was attributed to heart disease.
Williams was a native of Pennsylvania, and fought throughout the Civil War. He was wounded five different times. He engaged in the battles of at Bull Run, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. Prior to service in the Civil War, Williams was a marine and sailed the seas for 40 odd years.
There are no known relatives.
Funeral services will be held at Layng & Tinney chapel, Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, with the Rev. Charles Winning of the First Methodist Church, in charge. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Redwood City.
