Obituary
WILLIAM HUGHES
Redwood City Democrat - Nov 5, 1908
William Hughes, the wealthy pioneer lumberman, died in his home here Saturday morning after a long illness, at the age of 75 years. Mr. Hughes came to this state from his birth place in Maine more than 50 years ago and almost immediately went into the lumber regions where he gradually acquired large tracts of timber land until he amassed a fortune estimated at over $200,000. Some time ago he retired from active business but retained the position of vice-president of the Redwood City Commercial Bank of this city. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Dr. Asa Collins of S.F. The funeral was under the auspices of Redwood Lodge F and AM of which he was a prominent member. The internment was in Union Cemetery.
