Sad Passing of Mrs. Wentworth
The funeral of Mrs. Charlotte A. Wentworth, whose sudden passing last Friday afternoon was the cause of widespread sorrow throughout the city, was held Monday afternoon from the First Congregational Church Rev. C. H. Stevens of Lodi, former pastor of the local church, conducted the services, which were attended by hundreds of friends of the bereaved family. A choir consisting of Mrs. C. H. Stevens, Miss Kittie Crowe, Mr. Wilbur Doxsee and Mr. Otis M. Carrington, with Miss Clarissa Dodge at the organ, rendered "Some Day We'll Understand", and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", and Mr. Carrington sang "Happy Elysis." Banked about the casket were hundreds of beautiful floral offerings sent by sorrowing relatives and friends.
Following the service the funeral cortege proceeded to Union Cemetery, where interment took place in the family plot.
Mrs. Wentworth had been ill at her home, 706 Arguello St., for about two weeks. Her condition was not regarded as serious and she was taken to the Hulings Hospital Friday morning for what was considered a minor operation. She failed to rally after the operation, however, and passed away about four o'clock Friday afternoon. Her death was a great shock to her family and to her many friends here and throughout the Peninsula.
Mrs. Wentworth was born in Redwood City and was one of the most prominent women of the community. She was exceptionally talented, with a pleasing soprano voice that had been often heard in social and benefit affairs in the city. She had been active for many years in church circles and was a member of the choir of the First Congregational Church. She also belonged to the Redwood City Woman's Club.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Frank P. Wentworth, three sons, George C., John R. and F. DeAlton Wentworth, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Christ, former pioneer residents of this city and now making their home at Cloverdale, Calif., two sisters. Mrs. L. D. Rathbone of Cloverdal and Mrs. Harry Brace of San Francisco and one brother, George Christ of this city.
