Obituary

MRS. WALLIS
Redwood City Democrat
January 19, 1905
The remains of Mrs. Wallis, who died at Los Gatos last Wednesday were interred in Union Cemetery, this city, beside her husband and son, Sunday forenoon in the presence of a large concourse of old friends of the deceased Mrs. Wallis was the wife of the late Judge Wallis of Mayfield, a prominent attorney, and resided at that place from 1860 to 1898 when her husband passed away. She had since made her home in Los Gatos.

In the older days, Mrs. Wallis was a prominent woman socially, and on the completion of the railroad from San Francisco to San Jose, in 1863 she was given a bouquet at Mayfield by the head officials of the Southern Pacific Company, among them being the late Senator Stanford, for the part she taken in securing the right of way for the road. It is said, through her efforts and influence in those days, the right of way was secured.

Mrs. Wallis was once wealthy, but through her generosity her property passed from her and her declining years were spent on a small place at Los Gatos that was given her by her Sons.
